About NHD Utah

The Salt Lake Regional History Day competition has been hosted at Salt Lake Community College since 2014. Students from across Salt Lake, Tooele, and Summit counties are eligible to participate in this contest. Participants come from a wide rage of educational affiliations which include those attending public schools, charter schools, private schools, online schools, and home schools. Top entries from the Youth (4th and 5th grades), Junior (6th through 8th grade) and Senior (9th through 12th grades) divisions qualify to advance to the state contest.

NHD Utah is Utah’s official National History Day affiliate. Formerly called Utah History Fair, this program has operated continuously in Utah since 1980.  Last year, more than 6,500 Utah students in 4th through 12th grade participated in History Day, learning how to conduct real historical research and then create a final project that showcases their work.

NHD Utah is operated by the Utah Division of State History located in the historic Rio Grande Depot in Salt Lake City, home of the Utah State Historical Society, Library and Collections, Utah Historical Quarterly, and next door to the Utah State Archives.
